MOLO is an innovative local news and events app developed for the cities of Bremen, Leipzig, and Lüneburg in Germany. This app is the result of a collaboration between multiple universities and research institutes, including the University of Bremen, ZeMKI, the Leibniz Institute for Media Research Hans-Bredow-Institut, and the University of Leipzig. With more than 20 news partners, MOLO provides city-specific news and events to local residents, fostering a stronger sense of community. Funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) with €1.5 million, MOLO is not only a practical tool for its users but also a significant research project aimed at improving local journalism and community engagement. As the lead product designer on the project, I was responsible for overseeing the design process, ensuring that the app met the needs of users, researchers, and developers alike. My role included user research, UX/UI design, and web design, culminating in a product that allows users to both consume and contribute to local news.
